 Post subject: Switching SCC Provider
PostPosted: Thu Aug 25, 2005 8:34 am
I have a customer that has a SAW server and one that does not. Therefore I need to switch default SCC provider when I switch between customers. However, when I uncheck the option for SAW to be my default SCC provider and then try to open a solution, it still wants to connect to the SAW Server instead of going right to VSS.
Is there something I am missing????

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,

Is the project a web project?

If yes, you can refer to the following post:

Thanks.

Sorry Catherine I was out of town for a few days. Here's my situation:

I am not referring opening the same solution. I have one solution that was added to VSS via SourceAnywhere client (Solution A). I have another solution that has always been used with VSS client and I have never used SourceAnywhere client with that solution (Solution B).

So lets say I am working on Solution A with SourceAnywhere. Customer A has a SourceAnywhere Server. I do some work for them and now I am done with that work. So I uncheck the checkbox that says SourceAnywhere is my default client and exit VS.NET and SourceAnywhere.

Now I go to open Solution B to work on it. Instead of connecting to source control via VSS, the SourceAnywhere Connect dialog comes up. Even tho I unchecked the checkbox and I have NEVER used SourceAnywhere with Solution B. This particular customer of mine does not have a SourceAnywhere server. Since I needed to use VSS, I went so far as to uninstall the SourceAnywhere client. But at that point VS.NET still was looking for SourceAnywhere and gave me an error. I had to re-install VSS Client on my machine to get things square again.

This is a BIG issue for us at our company because we have many customers. We need to be able to switch SC Clients back and forth depending on what our customers have. I can understand sticking to one SC Client for a particular solution. That is not a problem at all. But there will be many situations where we need to use VSS with one customer and SourceAnywhere with another.

Ok I feel like a moron. The SCC provider manager works great for this. I was not using that. I only used the checkbox in the Options | General - Make SourceAnywhere your default SCC provider.

What else does the provider manager do that that little checkbox does not do?

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,

The SCC Provider Manager enables you to view and specify the current SCC Provider while checking or unchecking that checkbox in SourceAnyWhere only switches between SourceAnyWhere and the original SCC Provider.

Thank you.
