This has happened a couple times now, so I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this, or knows what could be causing it.

A couple times I've gotten an error in the morning trying to access my Source Safe 6.0 database, "The database does not exist or cannot be accessed." When I check on the network, the server is up, and the data folders all appear to be there.

Both times, I've determined that the following files are missing:

srcsafe.ini
users.txt
users folder, containing ss.ini files
crcs.dat

They must have been there the previous day, because it had been working fine. I'm able to restore those files from a backup and get back in, but I'd like to know what is happening to those files so I can hopefully prevent it from continuing to happen. Any ideas???

A more common issue would be that only the file "ss.ini" is lost. I found a post for this issue:

I haven't encountered a case like yours yet, is it possible that anti-virus software is deleting these files?

That's kind of what I wondered too.

I had the auditing option activated on that folder so if it happens again, we'll get some info.

But the two times it happened were 8 months apart, so may be awhile before we find out.
