Post subject: socket error during getting latest files
PostPosted: Mon Jul 25, 2005 10:33 pm
I'm currently evaluating your program for our SCM tool which could be used over the Internet.

When I get the latest files from the top directory of a project, the message "Getting latest files... : Socket error occured" pops up in the last line of the lower status window after successful file list updating of whole directories.

I have read in this forum that the message could happen because of firewall or vpn timer during the idle period. However this is different, isn't it?

How can I avoid this problem?

Thank you.

Hi Hons,

Do you use VSS 8 as the backend of SAW? If you use VSS 6.0, have you installed VSS 6 SP6?

Thanks.

Hi Robert,

Thank you for your reply.

VSS 6 SP6 (6.0d) was installed in the SAW server machine.
In the LAN environment, there is no problem.
But, the Internet access from some country to a huge local database showed this issue.

Thanks.

Hi Hons,

Does it happen always or very rare?

Another possible reason for this to happen is that the internet connection is not very stable as we often experience while downloading something.

Hi,

We had a similar problem before. But after changing our ISP, everything is fine. We never see a Socket Error ever since.

I believe the stability of your connection is the problem.

Also, I think SAW handles the network dropdown pretty good. Even though a socket error is shown, everything is taken care of.

Hi,

Thank you Bill for the reply.

Yes. SAW is able to handle the network dropdown very well.

Please check your network connection. I still believe this is the most possible reason for the problem.

Thanks.
