Hello all,

I have been using VSS source control for a while, but came across this requirement for the first time. I would be grateful if someone may please help me resolve this.

I have got 4 versions of the same folder "ABC", where each folder represents a release. The developer never used VSS for maintaining these 4 versions.
Now, I have to put them in source safe in such a way that it shows only one folder called "ABC" but holds all the 4 versions and anyone can check out any of the 4 versions using a label.

So I created a project and set its working folder to the first version of "ABC". Then drag-dropped contents of version 1 into it. Set its label to "Release 1". Thereafter, dragged the contents of the second version into VSS and set the label at this stage to "Release 2" and so on for all the 4 folders.

The problem is that when viewing the history of the project in VSS, it does show me the 4 release labels but the content of the files for any version seem to be the same as those of Version 1, whereas I was expecting VSS to get me the files for a version that I have labelled it to.

How do I solve this issue?

I don't think I should be checking out Version 1, then copy pasting the contents of version 2 into the files, checking them back, labellin them as version 2, check it out again and do the same till all versions have gone in????????????

Hi Sri,

You can follow the steps below:

1.Check out Version 1 and copy the contents of Version 2 to the working folder.
2.Diff the two versions of the project.
3.Click Reconcile All in Project Difference dialog box, choose the proper settings and click OK.

4.Label the project as Version 2.
5.Repeat the steps till you check in all the 4 versions.
