We've been having a couple of issues with our proxy cache server. Logging is enabled but the logs don't contain much of use.

Any chance of the following enhancements in a future release??

Ability to configure trace logging on the cache proxy - currently logging is either on or off and it would be nice to be able to see more details when appropriate

Ability to inspect the cache proxy log to see when there's been a hit or a miss. This would help us to understand why the main SAW server occasionally gets hammered.

Ability to See from the logs which VSS database the request applies to. We have a lot of DBs and we need to know which DB a request is against.

Hi there,

Thank you for your feature requests. We have added them into our issue tracking system for the consideration of a future release.

Thanks.

The proxy cache server logs for SAW 5.3.2 also don't contain any sufficient information. Hence it becomes difficult for us to judge the performance of the proxy server, the client many a times seems to bypass the proxy and talk directly to the server. If we have the same log features for the proxy cache as we have or the server it would be better.

Thank you for your feedback. We will consider this in the next version of SourceAnywhere for VSS.

Thanks.

Any update on when we can expect a new version and whether the logging in the proxy will be improved. We can't evaluate any performance improvements reliably without additional logging information in the proxy.

If you have multiple users in the same office accessing SourceAnyhwere for VSS server through cache server, cache server can improve the access performance greatly.

It is true that currently there is no "performance counter" in the cache thus there is no visibility into the cache server performance.

The date of the next release of SourceAnywhere for VSS has not been decided yet. We will improve the logging of Cache Server in the next version and will keep you updated.

A query regarding the logs that we have from SAW server. It gives info about when one logs in, the Get latests and check-in/check-out informations. If one logs in through the cache server, this logging info is also tracked here(main server logs). Does that mean that when one does a Get latest (even if the cache is full) this info is also tracked by the server logs?

Hi Umang,

No. If a file was transferred through the cache server before, the file will be transferred directly from cache server to client without sending request to server. And the operation info will not be tracked by the server log.

Thank you for the feature request related to the Cache Server log. We will improve it in our future release.

Thanks.
