We have been using SAW 5.1 for over a year using a remote caching proxy at our remote site.

We have had memory leak issues in the past so we restart the services nightly and repopulate the cache using a command line script to fetch everything via the proxy. This ensures that when devs do a get latest they get optimal performance from the system and the WAN is not used.

The major issue we have is that some VSS projects contain upwards of 1500 files and it can take several minutes to enumerate the files in the project. When our WAN performance degrades this can go up to two hours. Since our users can't check out until the UI has updated, this is highly inconvenient.

I have some questions.

Even though the cache is fully populated it appears the UI still queries the root (i.e. remote) server for the list of projects, rather then fetching the list from the local cache. Is there a way to get the proxy to cache the list of files in the project to avoid this latency?

If this is a known issue, are there any plans to address in current or future versions of SAW.

Currently, SourceAnywhere for VSS cannot get the proxy to cache the list of files.

You can try SourceAnywhere for VSS 5.3 which was released today. The performance is greatly improved in the new version.

Also, you can check the "Never refresh the project unless being refreshed manually" option (Tools menu->Options->View tab) in SAWV 5.3 to improve the performance of enumerate files in the project.

Thanks.

Is it necessary to upgrade the client and server at the same time. Is the 5.2 client supported against a 5.1 server and 5.1 proxy?

I'd like to test the new client against the existing server to see whether the 'no refresh' option gives some improved performance.

SourceAnywhere for VSS 5.2/5.3 Client cannot work with the version 5.1 Server. Please upgrade both of the Client and Server.

For information on how to upgrade to SourceAnywhere for VSS 5.3, you can refer to: how-to-upgrade-to-dynamsoft-sourceanywhere-for-vss-5-3-2-t1131.html

Thanks.
