When checking files (e.g. package specs and bodies) back into VSS (using the VSS client) we always make sure to enter a comment - we have keyword expansion enabled so that these comments are automatically entered into the modification history of the file.

When using the VSS client to check the file in - the file is modified on your hard drive using the keyword expansion However, when using the SourceAnyWhere client - the keyword expansion still happens to the version of the file that is in the VSS database - but you have to actually get that latest version to your hard drive

I could not see anything in SourceAnyWhere client that would automatically get the latest version when doing keyword expansion - and I couldn't find anything in the help on keyword expansion either. Is there anything that would remove the extra step of having to get the latest version after checking the file in when keyword expansion is enabled? adding an extra step is not desirable.

SourceAnyWhere supports keyword expansion, when you check in a file, the keyword expansion takes effect. But currently, a get latest is needed to get the keyword expanded file.

We appreciate your suggestion. We will look into this feature and log it as a feature request for consideration in a future release.

First of all, I would like to thank you for a great product. I am a new user who was enduring extreme pain having to interact with our VSS database on the opposite coast of the U.S. via the Microsoft client. SAW is infinitely (well, it seems like infinite anyway!) faster.

I have run into what appears to be the lack of one feature that the Microsoft client has, which I do miss: auto-reload of a file checked in with keyword expansion. After I have done the check-in I have to then do an explicit Get Latest Version to get the same file that I just checked in, but with its keywords filled out.

I could find nothing in the Help system. I then searched the Forum and found essentially the same question from Madan Shah on 8 Jul 2005. The reply to him was No, that's not supported but we'll consider it for future versions. So, my question today: Has that feature made it into the SAW client yet?

For your question:
Due to that VSS API doesn't provide such a interface, we have not implemented this feature in SourceAnywhere for VSS.

However, we support this feature well in our other SAW products working without VSS- SourceAnywhere Standalone and SourceAnywhere Hosted. If you are interested, you can have a look at the following page:
