If you are using VSS 6.0, its API does not return the filename information.
If you are using VSS 8.0, you can extract the filename information from the Action column of the history.

Thanks.

Thanks Catherine for all the help & support .
Just a short idea on what i done using saw sdk.
1. I created windows application using saw sdk which takes the input from users abt vss files & versions.
2. the application creates nant script as out put .
3. these nant scripts get run on the server where ms vss is installed.
4. so using saw sdk & nant i m able to automate the process of moving the specified files from one branch to other.

Thanks again for all the help & support provided by you .
& I would like to know if there is any build automation tool like NANT or Cruise Control which is compatible
with saw.

Hi gaonkar_sameer,

Thank you for updating us.

Currently, SourceAnywhere for VSS is not compatible with NANT or CruiseControl.net. We have developed SourceAnywhere Standalone plug-in for CruiseControl.net and will consider developing the SourceAnywhere for VSS plug-in in future. We will keep you updated if there is any progress.

Thanks.

Hi there,

Thanks for the good post by gaonkar_sameer and the warm answers by Catherine.

Here I am planning to work on the integration with SAW for VSS, also I am facing almost the same problem.
We develop a plugin for VSS 2005 using Microsoft.VisualStudio.SourceSafe.Interop.dll, this plugin checks user comment when check-in, add files... when the comments not fit for certain format, it will prompt error message and the operations are not allowed.

From this post I understand that by using SAW, this plugin will work in SAW Server since it uses VSS API to do kinds operations. The interceptor will return false to prevent further process. But how can the error message be transfered back to SAW Client with the VSS plugin?
(We only uses MessageBox in the VSS plugin to alert user originally, which obviously not work in SAW environment.) Is there any way to make it work?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Craighackster,

>From this post I understand that by using SAW, this plugin will work in SAW Server since it uses VSS API to do kinds operations.

Currently, SourceAnywhere for VSS Server does not provide interfaces to interact with other plug-ins.

Update: SourceAnywhere for VSS now provides plug-ins for Ant and CruiseControl.NET. You can download them here:

Thanks.
