Hello,

We're running SourceSafe Anywhere Professional version 5.01 over a VSS database. When I try and do a get latest on certain files in my project using the sourcesafe anywhere client I get the following error: "Access to file D:\VSS\Data denied".

The weird thing is that I can check out the same file using the SourceSafe Anywhere client without any error. The check out does a get latest as part of the process so not quite sure what's going on here.

Any thoughts on what might be causing this? SourceSafe Anywhere on the server is running as the system account so I don't think it's a permissions isssue. Once the file is local if I delete it and do another get latest I get the access denied error again, and again can successfully get the file by doing a checkout.

Thanks any help!

We suggest you try the following ways to solve this problem:

1. Verify the Log On user of SourceAnywhere for VSS service has read/write permissions of all subfolders/files within the VSS folder.

2. An unhealthy VSS database may also cause this problem. Please run "Analyze VSS DB" utility to check your VSS database.

Thanks.

I ran the VSS analyze utility and it did find some problems, so ran with fix flag. I also changed the user on the sourcesafe anywhere service to an administrator to make sure it was not a permissions issue.

Still can't do a get latest on some files through the SSAnywhere client, but can do a checkout. Not a big deal since can get the files with a checkout. If I figure out what's wrong I'll post the answer in case anyone else runs into this. Maybe this particular VSS db is just hosed.

Thanks for your help!

Any solution to this problem?
I am encountering exactly the same problem only seen when accessing the Database via a Java client connected to SourceAnywhere for VSS 5.3.2
The database is clean (just analyzed and fixed)
SourceSafe running on the same machine as SourceAnywhere has no issues with the same files.

Which version of VSS are you using on the SourceAnywhere for VSS server machine? If you are using SourceSafe 6.0, it is recommended that you use 6.0d, which is part of Visual Studio 6 SP6. If you are using SourceSafe 2005, you can download the update from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Please let us know if this solves the issue.
