Post subject: Error message : wrong user name or password
PostPosted: Wed Sep 28, 2005 12:47 am
Hello,
I am currently testing sourceanywhere.

I tried first connecting me to our actual database to perform some views, getlast... It works ok.

In order not to modify our actual database, I made a copy of that database on the computer that hosts the sourceanywhere server (copy of the folder with the DB). I configured sourceanywhere in order to give access to that copy to a user (user1).

Now, something very strange happens :
When I try to connect with the microsoft VSS client to that database's copy, it works fine (with the user user1).
But, when I try to connect my sourceanywhere client to the server with the same username, I get an error message : wrong username or password.

Do you know the cause of that problem? Did I do something wrong when I copied the database? Why can't sourceanywhere use the database since microsoft sourcesafe can?

Thank you,

Charles

Hi Charles,

There are three possible reasons for such problem:

1. The username or password is incorrect.

2. The user does not exist in VSS. Adding a user to SAW does not create the user in VSS database. It only specifies which user is allowed to access VSS database through SAW Server.

3. The path of the VSS database is incorrect. The path of the VSS database can be configured in Server Manager->Database.

Since you were able to login VSS Client with the username, the first two items should not be the reasons for your problem. Please check the path of the VSS database.

Actually, all databases located on server can be accessed. My service runs under a user that can connect to that shared folders.

But for local hard drive databases, it does not work. I changed the username of the service to local system and it works again. Maybe the user I use for shared folder database has no access to local computer database. I would be strange, but things like that can happen...

I will check it and let you know.

I gave "myPC's Users" the full control privilege on that folder and it is working fine. So it was my fault, sorry about that.
