We run a script each night to keep our proxy cache server in sync with the remote production server.

If users do a get latest via the proxy performance is fine and only a small number of files are requested from the production server - i.e. those that have changed since the proxy was last primed.

However if users do a fetch of a label rather than the tip (the tip code occasionally does not build properly so we recommend fetching the last known good build label) the proxy cache appears to ignore the request and passes it straight back to the production server, even though the vast majority of the LKGB versions will be identical to those in the tip (and therefore in the cache). This is slow from the user's point of view and hammers the production server unnecessarily.

Is this by design? Is there anything we can do to ameliorate the problem other than advising devs to just fetch the tip rather than the label?

Can't the proxy work out whether the labelled version is the same as the cached version and therefore just returned the cached version rather than pulling the entire file down from the production server?

Stephen

Thank you for your feedback. We will look into that.

If you get label, SourceAnywhere for VSS needs to request the server for some history information. So generally speaking, it may take more time to get a labeled version than to get latest version.

Cache server performance is improved in SourceAnywhere for VSS 5.3.2. You may have a try.

Thanks.
