Post subject: Adding Files to a project / Navigating the folder tree
PostPosted: Wed Oct 05, 2005 5:14 am
(1) If I want to add a file to a project manually (using the SAW 4.2 GUI Client), I have to navigate to the directory that contains the file. However doing so is very slow compared to every other "tree navigator" that I know of, in any application: in SAW it takes multiple seconds to expand a folder, where in most applications this happens in the blink of an eye.
I know I have a big and extensive folder structure - and on top of that I have some "network drives" that are often not connected. Still that does not slow down the other navigators, or at least not after they show the tree for the first time.

(2) I'd like this Tree navigator to open 'by default' in the working folder of the project that I have selected in SAW. Now it always opens in the root of my system, so it takes me anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 minute to navigate from there to the working folder.

(3) I'd like to be able to copy/paste a full path into a path box in the Tree navigator (e.g. - d:\user\projects\Client Xyz\Setup\scripts for Abc\2_6_0\experimental\). Often I have this path already open in Explorer, so copying the text for the path is easy. Pasting however, is impossible.

(4) In addition to (3), I'd like to be able to paste a full Path + Filename into this box and have it added. After that, SAW shows the remaining content for that folder.

Bye,
Peter

Hi Anidro,

Thank you for your post.

SourceAnyWhere is designed to position to the working folder in Add Files dialog box.

However, if there is any special device in the system that appears as a driver or something in ?My Computer?, SourceAnyWhere may open the root of the system instead of the working folder in the Add Files dialog box.

This issue is caused by a known bug of SAW. We will fix this bug and release a new version this week.

For the four issues you reported, if the second issue is resolved, I believe, the other three should not be problems.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

When will the update that addresses this problem with the current working folder be released? It's quite frustrating.

I've redownloaded the current Mac OS X build of SAW, and it still says it's version 4.2, and this problem still exists -- it always defaults to / when you go to add files.

Hi Sheppy,

Thank you for your feedback.

This problem has only been fixed in SAW Windows Client 4.2.1.

We will fix this problem in future release of Java Client.

Sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you.
